UKAS Success for Laboratory

In October Soil Engineering’s geotechnical laboratory in Leeds underwent an annual UKAS surveillance visit. Soil Engineering attained their accreditation for the 18th consecutive year and this visit resulted in the lowest score of findings the laboratory have ever received.

The Assessors were overwhelmed by the standard of professionalism, competence and the level of experienced technicians Soil Engineering have. They consider Soil Engineering’s laboratory to be in the Top 5% of all UK geotechnical laboratories, saying “As has been the case in recent years this visit has found the laboratory to be operating to very good levels of conformance to the requirements of technical standards and ISO 17025:2005. Without exception laboratory staff were observed to be technically proficient and seen to perform their duties in an exemplary manner. Staff training is clearly effective and is supported by regular and rigorous internal auditing. The management system is robust with associated protocols implemented in an effective manner.” UKAS Assessor.

Everything points to a good year ahead for the laboratory which will undergo a full UKAS Assessment in October 2012. Stuart Kirk, Laboratory Manager said “The laboratory team have exceeded all expectations and have consistently performed extremely well under the current stresses of the business.”
